Island Road Boat Launch Closed!
Fanwort -- an Invasive Aquatic PlantOn July 22nd, 2 Board members found a new plant to our shores by the Island Road Boat Launch. This plant is called Fanwort and is a very hardy and persistent species whose stems are very fragile leading to easy fragmentation. These fragments can resprout and grow into new plants. It is a highly competitive plant that is capable of rapid growth and spread. Once established, Fanwort can out-compete native vegetation leaving fish and animals that were dependent on the native vegetation to relocate or perish.
The Board of Directors has authorized the boat launch to be closed until the plant can be safely removed. The lock combination has been changed and the boat launch area will be roped off from the lakeside.
Please KEEP AWAY from this area including all fishing and communicate this to other HHL residents.
